Searching for construction jobs can be like having a second (or third) full-time job. There are tools that can help make it easier! Glassdoor is one of those tools. From the website:
“Glassdoor holds a growing database of more than 8 million company reviews, CEO approval ratings, salary reports, interview reviews and questions, benefits reviews, office photos and more. Unlike other jobs sites, all of this information is entirely shared by those who know a company best — the employees.”
1. Be The First To Know
Want to stay on top of new jobs in a specific location? No matter where you are, search millions of job listings on Glassdoor by job title, employer and location. You can easily search by recency and setup job alerts for yourself. This is sometimes the most time consuming part of construction job searching. Though you should still continue to actively seek opportunities, setting up alerts and applying to more recent job postings can help you maintain momentum.
2. Get The “Dirt”
Beyond searching open positions, you will also have access to rates from employees and former employees for the companies who are hiring. Even if you’re working with a recruiter, this can be a very useful tool. Does the company have the culture you’re looking for? Is management very hands on? How flexible is the organization about working from home? The more reviews a company has, the more you can learn. The more time has passed, the more insight you have regarding trends. A 3 star rating for a company may seem meek, but check out the most recent reviews. If there have been better reviews lately, that’s not only a good sign that things have changed, but also a sign that management is responsive to issues and making those necessary changes.
This is also a great place to look for potential interview questions. Many employers will use the same or similar questions for interviewing candidates, even from a different type of role than the one you may be seeking.
3. See What They Have To Offer
Are you interested in working for a company committed to career advancement? What about a group dedicated to local social responsibility? Check out the company pledges.
If you are looking for a new job because you need better benefits, it can be very hard to get that information in general. It’s almost impossible to find benefits information before you apply to the company if you’re not working with a recruiter. You can find detailed benefit information on Glassdoor. Everything from paternity leave and adoption assistance to sick and vacation days.
You can look for companies you like and see what jobs they have posted. Or, you can look for positions and check out the company details for roles that you find interesting. No matter how you want to start you search, Glassdoor is a super easy tool to use (even on a phone!) to conduct or supplement your construction job search.
